I'm glad I don't have to use that in school. I use a Texas Insturments TI-83 graphing calculator and couldn't live without it.

What do the 'Pillars of the Congregation' think of new light
by Gadget ini was reading a post on another thread about a 70yr old sister who's husband was a pillar of the circuit in times past now just drowned out most of what she heard from the platform as someones personal oppinion and served jehovah the way she felt was right.
is this typical of someone who has been in the org for that long, the difference being that she felt comfortable enough with the people concerned to actually voice it?
what about the people who joined in the 20s and 30s and have seen all the new light coming in over the years, has any asked them how different it all is now to the religion they joined?.

I remember an older guy who made a comment at the watchtower study and used the word crucified instead of impaled. People looked suprised and the elder took a big gulp but nothin' became of it because he was old. (and an elder)

Raised a JW... did you have a childhood?
by ignorance is strength inpersonally i was quite serious at a young age.. there was no "boys will be boys" growing up.
personally i feel kind of cheated out of a childhood by an organization that forced you to think that "everything around you was going to be gone soon so you better grow up, start publishing, and giving talks.
" did any of you experience a less than stellar childhood, especially because of the lack of holidays and socially-isolating religion gowing up?

Was the Holy Spirit part of Jesus or a force controlled by God
by shotgun inthe account where the woman with the blood flow touched jesus outer garment and was cured interests me.. jesus felt the power leave him and looked to see who touched him.
if the holy spirit was an active force seperate and controlled by god why would jesus have felt a power drain.. if you consider most of jesus healings to be a placebo which only healed people who believed like present day faith healers do this account sheds a different perspective.. if you believe jesus was god and all powerful it seems strange that he would notice the insignicant power needed to stop a flow of blood considering the awesome displays of power which never seemed to bother him(calming a storm, replacing a severed ear, raising the dead, feeding thousands with basically nothing..although my mom could do that too).
what are your thoughts...yes you too mr canon...not too long though...ok...remember kiss

Are You Afraid of Another Terrorist Attack This Month?
by minimus inwhen i read about september 11 and the anniversary of the terrorist attacks, i always think something big is being planned again.
do you tend to worry about this stuff?

Never been afraid really, I mean if a bomb is going to go off under your car, there's nothing you can do about. At least theres not gun fights in the street. I watched a commercial and it said "September 11, 2001. Terrorists tried to change America forever. They succeeded." Just something to think about.

Homer Simpson's wisdom:
Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. 14% of people know that.
You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.
When you participate in sporting events, it's not whether you win or lose: it's how drunk you get.

Up the Republic
by ignorance is strength inwell i was surfing through this website and i thought of something... all members of the commonwealth arise and think how great a republic would be.
i mean, what do we pay our governor-generals for?
they live lavish lifestyles at the cost of the taxpayers and they do not even represent the wishes of the people since they are appointed by the prime minister (at least in canada, it varies in each commonwealth country).

Well I was surfing through this website and I thought of something... all members of the commonwealth arise and think how great a republic would be. I mean, what do we pay our Governor-Generals for? They live lavish lifestyles at the cost of the taxpayers and they do not even represent the wishes of the people since they are appointed by the Prime Minister (at least in Canada, it varies in each commonwealth country). This is made worse by an appointed senate who are only interested in recieving their patronage paychecks and not in the general interest of the people. (okay, most of this applies to Canada, especially since Ont. and Quebec have the most seats in parliament while BC, a province that in a few years will have the same population as Quebec, is about 50 seats behind, and a few hundred behind in the senate compared to PEI which has 1 senator for every 45,000 persons whilst BC has one senator for every 600,000 persons). Anyways... back to the monarchy. Why have your country still associated with a relic empire that committed genocide and ruled countries with an iron fist.
I'm a republican and I'm proud of it. My great-grandfather was a republican and fought at the Easter Uprising and then in the Civil War and I am a republican today. Break away from the morally-bankrupt, anglicans-only monarchy and embrace an elected head of state. Now I'm not saying we should be like the americans, we could just have an elected president instead of a Governer-General.

More New Testament and Inclusion of name Jehovah
by robhic ini read with much interest all of the replies to my original question in another thread.
i downloaded one of the books suggested and compiled what i could.
now, as i checked around for sources to prove that i was right and that the nt was jehovah-less, two people mentioned wt sources that i would like verified: 1 - "the watchtower march 1, 1991 p. 28 states that jehovah is not found in the nt.

Nope, not in there.
In Reasoning From the Scriptures the WTS teaches that "Jehovah" is the proper pronunciation of God’s name, and so "Everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved" (Rom. 10:13). They continue, "Many scholars favor the spelling ‘Yahweh,’ but it is uncertain and there is not agreement among them. On the other hand, ‘Jehovah’ is the form of the name that is most readily recognized, because it has been used in English for centuries . . . " (p. 195).
However, the JWs’ own Aid to Bible Understanding says, "The first recorded use of this form [Jehovah] dates from the 13th century C.E. [after Christ]. Raymundus Martini, a Spanish monk of the Dominican order, used it in his book Pugeo Fidei of the year 1270. Hebrew scholars generally favor ‘Yahweh’ as the most likely pronunciation" (pp. 884-885).
New Testament Greek always uses the word "Lord," and never "Jehovah," even in quotes from the Old Testament (OT). Encyclopedia Judaica, Webster’s Encyclopedia, Jewish Encyclopedia, Encyclopedia Britannica, Universal Jewish Encyclopedia and countless others agree that the title "Jehovah" is erroneous, grammatically impossible, and was never used by the Jews.Catholic Answers "Stumpers for Jehovah's Witnesses" (Catholic Answers: San Diego, 2001).
